Tom Cruises Through San Francisco Bay with Son Connor
Tom Cruise took to the water in July 2013 with his 19-year-old son Connor during the Louis Vuitton Cup in San Francisco. They watched as the Emirates Team New Zealand won a race, then climbed aboard themselves. Tom had a chance to take the wheel for a cruise around the San Francisco Bay. Tom was fresh off of celebrating his 51st birthday at the beginning of the month, and he also stopped by Comic-Con to promote his next film release, Edge of Tomorrow.
The father and son were more than just passengers on the huge catamaran – they worked the sails and took turns at the helm.
After his water adventure, the “Top Gun” star said, “It was really extraordinary… We got to work with the crew. It’s remarkable.
“We thought we were just gonna get on and we were gonna be just cruising… and the next thing we know, it was like, ‘You’re on this one, you’re on that one. Go, go, go… Stop. Faster. Faster. Stop…’ It was a real privilege. We wish the team great success.”
The team was happy after beating Italy’s Luna Rossa crew by more than three minutes in their final meeting in the America’s Cup challenger series.
The New Zealanders advanced straight to the Louis Vuitton Cup finals, on August 17, the winner to face Oracle Team USA in the 34th America’s Cup in September.
